Mike is a career railwayman who is a leader in the successful transition of a public sector railway into the private sector. A specialist in railway operations, Mike has led the development of FCP's operations practice from the perspective of someone who has been there, done it and “worn the T-shirt”, an oft coined phrase but amply demonstrable in Mike's case. As Production Director of GNER in its heyday, Mike massively improved the efficiency and productivity of the company's railway assets following privatisation and led the development of new innovative contracts for bought-in services and supplies to improve the on-board passenger experience. An expert in the operation of high speed passenger services Mike understands railway operations of all kinds and has been in great demand with FCP clients to support several areas of work.
For FCP Mike has undertaken a varied selection of top level assignments including working on franchise bids for potential bidders and leading the migration of activities from one franchise to another as part of re-mapping exercises undertaken by the Strategic Rail Authority and by Transport for London. Mike also led a team of FCP consultants undertaking a route capacity study for the East Coast Main Line and has more recently provided advice to a major train operating company to develop train crew productivity improvements to help overcome driver shortages.
