Beyond the European Union FCP has undertaken projects involving a variety of Eastern European countries including Georgia, Kazakhstan, Poland and Russia. The work we have undertaken in respect of these assignments has been associated as much with freight as passenger operations, the project involving Kazakhstan providing a good illustration of the type of work of which FCP is capable. We undertook a study for the development of a standard guage Trans Kazakhstan railway together with options for increasing traffic between Kazakhstan and China. The work included a capacity and utilisation study of the railway in both countries with commercial studies focussed on traffic forecasts, an assessment of the competition and the impact of border controls.
