Peter Davies

Peter Davies joined First Class Partnerships in October 2007 as Senior Operations and Planning Advisor, having established himself as one of the country’s leading railway planners. His expertise includes maximising the capacity of rail networks, reducing operating costs, determining infrastructure requirements to meet service aspirations, optimising rolling stock specifications, resource planning, and signalling and control centre design. He has considerable experience in advising public and private sector clients on the development of suburban and urban railways - both passenger and freight; metro and tram routes - both existing and new build; and high speed rail links. He has a track record of solving problems which appear to constrain the number of trains that can be run. Peter’s skills have been highly sought after by companies competing for new franchises and he has contributed considerably to the operations planning on two successful bids.

Peter has over 38 years’ experience in the rail industry.

Since joining FCP Peter has maintained his enthusiasm for Operational planning and has undertaken some varied tasks from Ops Planning Manager CrossRail, seeing the Bill through Parliament, Franchise work, Open Access train planning, and for the past 18 months has been part of a team working with Transnet Freight Rail, South Africa. He has been providing a mentoring, advisory and facilitation role in various areas of their business, working primarily in their National Command Centre. The tasks have included improvement in the Planning and Management of the Coal Line, the availability of planning data and supporting information, Training – A Basic Railway Introduction, advising on Computer Planning Systems and their functional specification and the introduction of an Area Freight Centre, including office layouts Roles and responsibilities and critical Job Descriptions. Recently he has undertaken a review of a timetable and rolling stock plan being submitted as part of a Metro Bid.
