Technical Challenge

For a complete overview of our engineering and infrastructure capabilities, please read our Capabilities in Rail Engineering document (PDF, 1.5Mb).

Privatisation has enabled substantial investment in the railway. As a result the need for effective rolling stock specification and procurement and infrastructure specification, design and development has never been greater. To optimise the benefit of funding the challenge is to identify what is best value for money whilst ensuring that the product delivered is neither gold plated nor below specification but is fit for purpose and compliant with engineering and safety standards.

The First Class Partnerships' approach is based on the process of Constructive Challenge. Our engineering specialists are widely experienced in the application of this technique and working with the client, FCP Operations and Commercial teams, its principal aim is to provide cost effective expert railway engineering advice by giving access to the industry’s leading and independent advisors in all engineering disciplines.

We have clients in UK railways, including metro systems, the European Union, South Africa and other countries around the world, who have all experienced the benefit of the Constructive Challenge approach using FCP engineering experts.

First Class Partnerships provides strategic, commercial, operations, engineering and infrastructure rail consultancy and advice to leading rail companies, investors in rail, governments and regulators around the globe.
